COVID-19: Shun politics, support government efforts – Plateau PDP urges residents
The Plateau chapter of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged residents of the state to shun politics of any kind and support government in the fight against coronavirus.
Mr John Akans, the State Publicity Secretary of the party said this in an interview with newsmen on Friday in Jos that residents should not be despondent after the confirmation of COVID-19 case in the state.
“The PDP calls on the people not to be despondent as a result of the confirmation of the index case in the state.
“Rather we should collectively come together in support of the effort put in place by the taskforce in fighting this dreaded monster.
“As a people, we have a lot of work to do in the face of this global pandemic because this virus has no political colour or identity.
“While we appreciate the effort of the task force, we equally call on the government to shun politics in the discharge of its constitutional responsibility of protecting its citizens.

“Government should be particularly fair in the planned palliatives to be given to all citizens.
“It should be done across board irrespective of political affiliation, tribe or creed in the state to alleviate the suffering the people are already going through as a result of the lockdown,” he said.
Akans advised the State Government to be prudent in the use of public funds and cautioned against taking advantage of coronavirus to embezzle public funds.
The publicity secretary also urged residents to strictly adhere to the preventive measures rolled out by the government.
According to him, staying hygienically safe in our homes, and observing social distancing and frequent hand washing are necessary at this trying time.
He emphasises that it would amount to gross indiscipline, recklessness and irresponsibility for any person to violate preventive measures put in place by the government in fighting COVID-19.
