Dayanand Thandalam resigns as GSK Consumer MD, as Akshikar resumes office

The Board of Directors of GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Nigeria Plc has announced the resignation of its Managing Director, Mr. Dayanand Thandalam Sriram with effect from March 20, 2018.

Mr. Dayanand Thandalam Sriram took charge at GSK Consumer four years ago during which he oversaw the successful divestment of the GSK drinks business and led the restructuring of the business.  As a major part of the restructuring, he led the tightening up of the brand portfolio, refocussing of investment on power brands, initiatives for driving operational efficiency and investing in building talents and capabilities to drive growth in the GSK Consumer business.

Meanwhile, the Board has appointed Mr. Bhushan Akshikar as the new Managing Director of the company effective March 20, 2018.

Akshikar started his career in GSK in 2011as Vice President GSK Pharmaceuticals India. Prior to joining GSK, he spent 16years with Johnson & Johnson in positions of increasing responsibilities in diverse markets like India, Belgium and South Korea. In his last assignment in India as the Executive Vice President, he led the Mass and Specialty Business Units of GSK India to deliver £150 million in annual sales revenue. In January 2017, Akshikar was appointed General Manager GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceutical Nigeria Limited and was appointed as a non-executive director on the Board in March 2017. Since his appointment, Akshikar has brought a lot of dynamism and innovation to the Nigeria pharmaceutical business as reflected in the company’s performance in the last one year.
