Delta State: Suspected Fulani herdsmen kill one, injure many

Gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen have allegedly killed a farmer, Chief Albert Chikwe, the Ade of Abugba at his farm in Udo village while another young man was said to have escaped with bullet wounds in Ubulu-uku Aniocha South Local government of Delta state.

The victim, Chikwe, in his 60s, went with labourers to work in his farm when the suspected herdsmen attacked them.

The Delta state commissioner of Police, Mr Adeleke Adeyinka, who confirmed the incident in a telephone interview on Monday, disclosed that the body of Albert was found dead in the bush.

He said, “Let’s not accuse somebody for now, the investigation is ongoing”

One of the labourers who spoke with our correspondent said he witnessed the accident at the crime scene before and after it was committed by Fulani herdsmen. “The labourers were helpless and as such ran home to inform the family”

Also Chief Jamico Adoh, the Ubulu-Uku Vigilante leader said the remains of Chief Chikwe was discovered this morning.

“Even same day, the herdsmen also shot and maimed an Ubulu-Uku youth along Ubulu-Uku/Issele-Uku road, where the herders have made a new abode and abattoirs.

“The young man as we speak now is receiving treatment somewhere undisclosed hospital. It was unclear if it was a failed kidnap or assassination attempt but the man escaped with his car and wound” he said.

Meanwhile, the tragic news of the gruesome murder of Chief Chikwe has again sent residents of the ancient Kingdom into mourning,

It will be recalled that in January 2016, the suspected Fulani herdsmen kidnapped and killed the traditional ruler of Ubulu-Uku kingdom, HRM Obi Akaeze Edward Ofulue 111 along Ubulu-Uku/Issele-Uku road.
