Diesel laden tanker crashes into electric pole, explodes in Lagos

A tanker conveying 33,000 litres of diesel fell on the NEPA Road in the Alaba-Rago area of Lagos State on Monday.

It was gathered that the yet-to-be-identified driver of the tanker was manoeuvring his way to get ahead of other vehicles when he rammed into an electric pole in the area.

The impact of the crash was said to have resulted in a spark and the tanker fell on its side and spilled its content on the road.

It was learnt that the spark ignited the diesel and the inferno created panic in the area.

The Director-General, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Dr Oluwafemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said,

“Upon the arrival of the LASEMA Response Team at the incident scene, it was observed that a tanker conveying approximately 33,000 litres of diesel had fallen on its side and was spilling its content.

“The LRT and men of the Lagos State Fire Services are carrying out suppression activities to curtail the spread of the fire. Rescue and recovery operations are ongoing. We appeal to members of the public to remain calm and obey the directives of the personnel of the Lagos State Traffic Management Agency and other agencies on the ground.”
