Dolapo Osinbajo writes loving posthumous message to granddad

Published

Wife of  acting President Yemi Osinbajo, Mrs Oludolapo Osinbajo remembers her grand father today.

Dolapo is a grandchild of the late Obafemi Awolowo. She lost her mother Otunba Olubusola Soyode, one of the children of the late Awolowo, in 2011.

Chief Obafemi Awolowo was born march 6, 1909 in Ikenne, Ogun State.

Dolapo Osinbajo took time to write a simple but loving posthumous  message to celebrate her grand father’s birthday.

She writes: “Remembering Papa. Living on in our memories. Unforgettable in his book my early life” by Obafemi Awolowo 1909-1987. (page 134), he wrote  “For I do not hesitate to confess that I owe my success in life to three factors: the Grace of God, a spartan self-discipline, and a good wife.”#Unforgettable, #Awo

Nigerians also remembered Awolowo today during the annual Obafemi Awolowo Memorial Lecture and posthumous birthday organised by the Obafemi Awolowo Foundation in Lagos. In attendance was the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, who was a special guest of honour at the occasion, former Military Head of State, Yakubu Gowon, Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun state, former Commonwealth Secretary-General, Emeka Anyaoku, former senator, Prof. Banji Akintoye and other invitees.

Anyaoku, who was also the chairman, Selection Committee, Obafemi Awolowo Prize for Leadership said “I wonder how the founding fathers like Awolowo, Nnamdi Azikiwe and Ahmadu Bello would feel with the present situation of the country.

They would be disappointed to find out that instead of having viable federating units, we have weaker and non viable units with an all powerful government at the centre which stifles competition and growth.

“They would also be disappointed in the way that the Federal Government disrespects the judiciary  and disobeys court orders, our fathers would be disappointed in the direction the country is headed to. I therefore urge those who are involved in government to emulate the likes of Awolowo and Azikiwe.”
