Easter: Jos residents comply with total lockdown directives
Jos residents on Easter Sunday complied with the total lockdown directive issued by the state government by deserting streets within the state metropolis.
The few persons and vehicular movement observed were only those on essential duties.
At Bukuru Metropolis, the roads were almost empty, with only security personnel at the Vom Junction, Angul-Di junction and Jos South secretariat junction, among other areas.
Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), North and Federal Capital Territory, Rev. Yakubu Pam, urged Christians to celebrate Easter in their homes.
He also urged them to observe preventive measures such as social distancing and personal hygiene.
Most Christians in the metropolis had relied on their electronic devices and android phones to listen to Easter messages from clerics locally and globally.
Also speaking with NAN, Mrs Muhibba Abdulrazak, the leader of Federation of Muslim Women Association of Nigeria (FOMWAN), Plateau chapter, urged residents to abide by the directives of the government.
“In the Quran, we are obliged to obey the authority and I implore all Muslims to adhere to all preventive measures prescribed by the state government,” she said.
She said that her area in Nasarawa Gwong, Jos North Local Government Area, complied with the directive on total lockdown.
The state government had on April 6, issued the total lockdown order which took effect from the midnight of April 9, expected to end 11 p.m. of April 15.
As part of efforts to enforce compliance, the state government set up ten mobile courts to try defaulters.
