A 15-year-old girl, who was reportedly being trafficked to Libya from Edo State alongside nine other girls, has been rescued in Burkina Faso.

According to an activist, Harrison Gwamnishu of Behind Bars Initiative (BBI), who shared the story on his Facebook page, the girl was rescued and handed over to police in Burkina Faso.

Harrison said the teenager has been repatriated to Nigeria while her trafficker, an Edo-based woman, has also been tracked.

He, however, said his organisation will be reaching out to government agency to secure accommodation for the girl who claimed she has no where to live because her father had sent her and her siblings out of his house after their mother’s death.

Harrison wrote:

“Her name is Doreen (Not real name), she’s 15-years. She and nine others (All-female) were trafficked out from Nigeria by a woman who lives in Edo State.

“En-route Libya. Fortunately for her, she was rescued in Burkina Faso and handed over the Burkina Faso Police.

“She returned safely to Nigeria and currently homeless.

“While we track down the traffickers, she needs shelter and willing to go back to school ?.

“If you know any Government Agency in Asaba, individual or organization that can accommodate her, please help reach out to them.

“She’s presently in our office and we are working tirelessly to see she gets all the support needed to fully re-integrate back into the society.

“From her story, no family available to take her in as her father chased her and her other siblings away when they lost their mother.”
