EFCC set to arraign JAMB official who claimed snake swallowed N35m
Philomina Chieshe, an official of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), in Makurdi, Benue State, who claimed that N35 million missing in her custody was swallowed by a snake will be arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) today (Friday).
The EFCC’s Acting Head, Media and Publicity, Tony Orilade, in a statement, said Chieshe would be arraigned on Friday alongside five other defendants before Justice Peter Afen of a Federal Capital Territory High Court, Abuja.
Philomina sent the Nigerian media alight in 2018 when she claimed that the huge sum of money which were returns from the sale of UTME e-cards, were not just missing under her supervision, but swallowed by a snake.
The others to be arraigned are Samuel Umoru, Yakubu Jekada, Daniel Agbo, Priscilla Ogunsola, and Aliyu Yakubu.
The statement read in part,
“Chieshe became notorious when she made an outlandish claim that a mysterious snake swallowed about N35m cash arising from sale of e-JAMB cards in the state.
“The controversial JAMB official is being prosecuted by the EFCC on an eight-count charge, following her refusal to furnish the management of JAMB (with) the true information on the financial status of JAMB e-cards supplied to the Benue zonal office between 2014 and 2016.
“Chieshe’s action is contrary to Section 139 (a) of the Penal Code Law.”
