EKITI GUBER RACE! Fayemi resigns his ministerial appointment

Dr. Kayode Fayemi has resigned his appointment as Minister of Mines and Steel Development.

The former minister’s decision was to enable him concentrate on defeating Governor Ayo Fayose’s deputy, Kolapo Olusola, at the July 14 governorship election in Ekiti State.

Reports said the former governor three weeks ago tendered his resignation letter to President Muhammadu Buhari, but it officially takes effect today, Wednesday, May 30.

Fayemi emerged as the flagbearer of the All Progressives Congress after he won the party’s rescheduled primary held on May 12.

He polled 941 votes in the primary to beat the likes of Segun Oni (481 votes), Kayode Ojo (281), Olufemi Richard Bamisile (179), Oluyede Oluwole (121), and Aluko Daniel Olugbenga (86).

Fayemi is expected at the office today, to address a press conference and give an account of his stewardship in the ministry before finally signing off.

Meanwhile, Fayose, who had already promised Fayemi an “electoral disaster” in the polls, said, “He will suffer the worst defeat of his political career… after the July 14 election, he will go into political oblivion.”
