Ekiti shuts illegal private school
The Ekiti State Government has ordered the immediate closure of a private Nursery and Primary School in Ado-Ekiti for allegedly operating without a valid operational licence.
The state Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mr Foluso Daramola, gave the order on Thursday during an unscheduled visit.
The affected school is Home of God Nursery and Primary School at Aremu area of Ado-Ekiti.
Daramola decried the dilapidated structure and filthy environment in which the school was operating.
He later said that government had earlier closed down three other private schools in the state this month for non-compliance with extant rules regulating the establishment of private schools.
The commissioner, however, declined to give the names of the affected schools.
He said that the government had set up a task force that would monitor the operations and activities of all private schools in the state in conformity with international best practices.
Daramola also disclosed that government would henceforth prosecute erring school proprietors.
He advised parents and guardians in the state to ensure that they enrol their children and wards in schools with a clean, conducive and decent environment for proper learning.
The commissioner was accompanied on the visit by the Technical Adviser to the Governor on Education, Dr Bimpe Aderiye, and other principal officers of the ministry.
