#EndSARS: Sack the commanders, watch others sit up – Henry Shield
A Nigerian social commentator Henry Nwazuruahu has said the arrest and subsequent dismissal of police officers who illegally kill innocent citizens is not the solution to police brutality.
He said the #EndSARS campaign would only remain an illusion until Commanders of erring SARS officers are made to face the consequences of the action of their subordinates.
Nwazuruahu who is popular as Henry Shield on the social media is the Head of Mission (Nig), Leadership & Accountability Initiative.
In a series of tweet via his Twitter handle @HenryShield, he opined that when the police Commanders start losing their jobs over acts of illegality perpetrated under their watch, it would send a strong signal to others across the country to sit up.
He wrote:
“Ready to
#EndSars? Let’s make just one Commander lose his job for an illegality perpetrated by the boys under him. OTHERS WILL SIT UP!“Until the Commanders of erring SARS officers are made to face the music when an illegality is committed under them, the
#EndSars campaign will remain an illusion.“When you arrest a SARS officer in Mushin for misbehaving, the ones in Benin may never hear of it and continue in their terrible acts, but when a Commander is removed for such an action under him, the remaining ones will definitely hear of it and call their men to order.”
