EPL: Man. City destroy Watford in eight-goal thriller as Everton, Tottenham slump to defeat
Bernardo Silva scored a hat-trick as Manchester City returned to winning ways in the Premier League with a destruction of bottom club Watford at the Etihad.
Having already bounced back from last weekend’s defeat at Norwich with a comfortable win in the Champions League, City looked back to their best as they blew the Hornets away with a stunning 18-minute opening salvo in which five different players found the net.
City raced into the fastest 5-0 lead in Premier League history with David Silva, Sergio Aguero, Riyad Mahrez, Bernardo Silva and Nicolas Otamendi scoring in the first 18 minutes.
Bernardo added two more after the break before Kevin De Bruyne’s thunderbolt completed the hammering, and brought Quique Sanchez Flores’ side back down to earth after their 2-2 draw with Arsenal in the first game of the new manager’s second spell in charge.
Meanwhile, Leicester came from behind to beat Tottenham 2-1. Harry Kane gave Spurs the lead but goals from Ricardo Pereira and James Maddison turned it around.
Both sides had goals ruled out for offside by the video assistant referee.
Sheffield United won away for the first time on their return to the EPL as a Yerry Mina own goal and a late Lys Mousset strike condemned Everton to defeat at Goodison Park.
