Ethiopian airlines crash: Nigerians panic over reports that Air Peace ordered for 10 Boeing 737 MAX 8
Well-meaning Nigerians have begun to worry about the recurring crash of Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft and have expressed concerns over the safety of innocent passengers.
Ethiopian Airlines flight Boeing 737 MAX 8 model crashed on Sunday killing all 157 people on board.
It’s the second time in less than six months that a new Boeing aircraft crashed just minutes into a flight.
After the unfortunate incident, China, Indonesia, Ethiopian Airlines and Cayman Airways on Monday grounded the new Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft over safety concerns.
Worried by this development, Nigerians took to Twitter to express their fears over reports that Nigerian carrier, Air Peace made a deal with the US-based airline manufacturer, Boeing, to buy 10 of the Boeing 737 MAX 8.
Chairman of Air Peace, Allen Onyema, had announced in last September that the order would arrive “very soon.”
Nigerians are however not sure if the airline had taken delivery of any of the ordered aircraft yet, generating panic over the safety of flying the local airline.
The Head of Media and Communications of the London School of Economic (LSE) Africa Summit, Gimba Kakanda (@gimbakakanda) tweeted:
“Reports say that Nigeria’s Air Peace acquired 10 Boeing 737 Max 8, and now that airlines all over the world are suspending the services of the aircraft, has Air Peace said a word yet? Our aviation regular must step in and join the world in responding to this shock from Ethiopia.”
Recall that an Indonesian Lion Air Boeing 737 MAX 8 flight crashed last October, killing all 189 people on board.

By 2021 or 2022 either way, BOEING 737 MAX 8 ordered by AIR PEACE will land in Nigeria & hopefully champagne drink will be everywhere to celebrate the new aircraft. I am telling u now to beg Airpeace to stop d order. If u know Boeing 737 MAX 8, u will run like Bolt away. Coffee

You can’t ground what isn’t on “ground”. The Air Peace planes won’t even be delivered any time soon; maybe 2020 or so. By then, the outcome of the Investigation will be known. Boeing will either fix the problem or Air Peace will cancel the order. We need not be too alarmist.

If Air Peace has not take delivery of the 737 Max 8 planes from Boeing, they should revoke the order and get another safer model. No wonder Boeing gave them 10. Very suspicious transaction from Boeing. If they have taken delivery, ground all of them. Dear @flyairpeace take note!

I hope our aviation regulators and concerned stake holders would ensure Air peace, Arik Air and any other airline cancel any Boeing 737 Max they might have ordered.

The best option is to be paying more attention to flight information (Aircraft Type) on schedule before booking.
Personally, I only look out for Date, Time & Fee
Getting more involved in our safety plan wit the airlines, whether Air Peace, Arik, Dana, Aero, Maxair or Azman is ✔️ pic.twitter.com/7IyI2y8dEB— Gbemi Dennis™ (@GbemiDennis) March 11, 2019

Air Peace ordered 10 Boeing 737 MAX 8 Aircraft last year, the same air craft that crashed earlier today. Should Nigerians be worried? https://t.co/JhdXNhYk9S

Problem with guys back home is that we’re too in a hurry. Air Peace ordered those planes but they’ll be delivered by 2021/22. In the light of these developments , don’t u think they’re making enquiries about their planes and that it’ll too immature to let the public in on it?
