Excitement on Twitter as police transfer Abayomi Shogunle to Ebonyi
There has been uncontrolled excitement on Twitter over the transfer of the Head of Police Complaint Response Unit, Yomi Shogunle, to Ebonyi.
The social media savvy Assistant Commissioner of Police was transferred to Nkalagu, a town in Ebonyi State over his disturbing controversial comments on Twitter.
The Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, also confirmed Shogunle’s transfer but did not state the reason for it.
Excited Nigerians especially the #EndSARS movement tweeted and retweeted the “good news” saying they hope Ebonyi gives him enough work to drown his social media skills.

His transfer has been trending on Twitter with #Nkalagu and #AbayomiShogunle.
Some activists and social commentators had opined that Shogunle should have been sacked instead of being transferred.
One Dr. Anita Mudiaga described Shogunle’s transfer as a lesson to public officers who make unguarded statements.
“We might all rejoice at Yomi Shogunle’s transfer to Nkalagu(and it’s a small victory to be celebrated especially if it’ll make him shut up) but the truth is public officers need to know that they can lose their jobs when they make statements like that. He should have been fired,” she tweeted.
WuzuNaija reports that Shogunle a few days ago said prostitution is a sin under the two main religions practised by residents of the Federal Capital Territory, thereby justifying the arrest and harassment of women, a comment which was criticised by Amnesty International.
An online petition was launched by Segun Awosanya moments after which garnered over 6,000 signatures of Nigerians
Shogunle had also mocked the #EndSARS movement which was propagated by victims of police extra-judicial killings and harassment.
The senior police officer had last month also advised Nigerians to address roadside policemen in pidgin as this could help them avoid being shot by his colleagues.
A former Director-General, Bureau of Public Service Reforms, Dr Joe Abah, mocked Shogunle for his transfer to a town in Ebonyi and not the capital.
Abah tweeted, “Ebonyi welcomes Yomi Shogunle to Nkalagu. Please note: Nobody will call you ‘Buoda Yomi’ here; you will not be in the state capital; you will be busy with serious issues and should not have time to mis-yarn on Twitter; small boys will call you ‘punish’, not police.”
WuzupNaija notes that the outspoken Shogunle has not reacted to his transfer news since the news began to trend on social media.

Yomi Shogunle’s transfer to Nkalagu is the latest evidence of the power of online petitions. Alot of people disregard the force of the social media until it hits them. The Arab Spring that took down Mubarak, Ben Ali and Ghadaffi started with one comment on Bouazizi’s video.

Spurs is like one Yomi Shogunle who for 90mins blocked all the shots fired at him by the P. of twitter..
Just when he thought he has won it…90+1min he is beaten by a well taken header by the P. of Nathan Ake @segalink to relegate him from his Top 4 Abuja to Nkalagu..#BOUTOT pic.twitter.com/h9mc0Z8hUL

I’d rather Yomi Shogunle be sacked than transferred but this is still welcoming news. The network in such a remote community should be cringe, as well as the electricity supply, oh and running water and indoor plumbing, so yeah he’s in for a stay and I have to laugh.

So I heard Yomi Shogunle has been transferred to Nkalagu, Eboyi State, SE.
Well, no matter how relieving the news may be, my biggest fear is for him not to negatively influence our officers in good standing over there.

How can the @PoliceNG have such a benign and irresponsible fellow handling a very sensitive aspect of it s citizens engagement. Kudos to the IGP Adamu for at the minimum sending that TRASH called Yomi Shogunle to Nkalagu!
For me, he should have been dismissed from the force! https://t.co/sydNquub5k

This is life, there will always be a yomi shogunle. There are also many ways to kill a rat. Stripping a man of his powers and making him redundant is really bad. And derserving, for him. It could hurt quite as bad as the boot.

If twitter wizards and witches tells you that you will hear from them, please do not hesitate to openly plead for forgiveness. Pride will only make you end up like a fly that’s headed for septic tank, thinking it’s feeding on dungs. Yomi Shogunle on my mind. @segalink

Tbh no state deserves to accommodate Yomi Shogunle. People like him shouldn’t even be in the police force in the first place.
