Fellowship president fired for faulting Pastor’s empty fuel tank testimony
In Nigerian society, religious leaders are mostly believed to be infallible, with divinely inspired decisions. Their acts and words are believed to be divine and shouldn’t be questioned, because they are ‘God’s mouthpiece’.
But a Nigerian man, who stirred up a hornet’s nest recently after faulting his pastor’s testimony in the presence of the congregants, was stripped of his departmental position in the church.
A social media user identified as Dr Olusesan shared the story of how the man was removed as the President of Men’s Fellowship in church for picking holes in his pastor’s testimony.
The Pastor was said to have testified before the congregants that by the workings of a miracle, his car went off due to empty fuel tank and after praying on the car, he drove it with an empty fuel tank for several kilometers before arriving at his destination.
A week later, the man was said to have presented a talk in a power point presentation at a fellowship in the church, explaining how it is possible to drive a car while the fuel tank is indicating there is no fuel in the car, thus knocking off the pastor’s experience as a miracle.
His teaching earned him a removal as President of the Men’s Fellowship.
He wrote:
“A fellow has been removed as President of Men’s Fellowship in his church due to allegation by the pastor that he lacks understanding of spiritual things. Prior to his removal, the pastor shared the miracle of how he drove his car with an empty tank from Agungi to Lekki Phase 1.
“The pastor narrated that his car fuel ’empty’ light blinked and the engine went off. And when he prayed the vehicle started.
“Saturday after, at Men’s Fellowship, the fellow that was removed presented a talk in PowerPoint presentation titled, ‘Car Fuel Tank Reserve & Their Sizes.
“He showed in slides, the owner’s manual of pastor’s car. That when d car fuel ’empty’ light blinks and the engine stops, it is a warning the car has switched to its fuel reserve. That the fuel reserve still holds 15liters, which can take anybody from Lekki to Sagamu, without prayers.”
