Five Nigerian music video directors you need to know
Close to the end of the 1990’s, the evolution of the Nigerian music industry became very fast. The music videos produced by the country’s musicians improved drastically. The growth of video technology made things more interesting.
The innovators held the space and flew the flag of Nigeria high. Clarence Peters is one of them. He is the CEO of CAPital Dream Pictures and the son of Afro Juju creator, Sir Shina Peters. He is arguably the most popular of them all with so many hits under his belt.
Apart from Clarence, here are five other music video directors that are doing fantastic jobs in flying the flag of the Nigerian music industry.

1. Musa Moe
Moe, real name Musa Muhammed is one of the trail blazers in the music video derecting terrain in Nigeria.
Born in Nigeria and raised in London, Moe studied in Thames Valley University UK with a degree in Media Technology.
He shot several videos in a bid to perfect his craft before geting a big break.
Moe believes that his breakthrough video for the song ‘Antenna’ by Fuse 2ODG brought him attention on an international level. Apart from the works he did in Nigeria, he has gone ahead to shoot videos in France, Amsterdam, America, Cyprus and South Africa. He has created hit videos for popular names in Africa, including Davido ‘Skelewu’, Wizkid ‘Azonto’, Tiwa Savage ‘Wanted’, Sarkodie ‘Down on One’ and most recently for multi- award winning artist Tuface ‘Diaspora Woman’. His videos have been featured on MTV Base, BET, Channel O & TraceTV.
2. Unlimited LA
Unlimited LA, real name Olalekan Buhari, strolled into the Nigerian music video scene as an intern in 2005. Unlike Moe, LA is “made in Nigeria”. He was born and raised in Lagos. He has a degree in Computer Science from the University of Lagos. By 2009, he had shot his first video, leading to his work as director on BlackMagic’s ‘Rainbow’ (2011) and ‘Repete’ (2012). He has since directed videos for artists like Tillaman, Praiz, Olamide and Sean Tizzle. He won Best Director at the Nigerian Entertainment Awards in 2015.

3. Matt Maxx
Maxx broke into the scene with the video he did for the pre-Big Brother Naija Cocoice. The song entitled ‘If You Don’t Know’. The work with Cocoice attracted Olamide who went on to contract Matt Maxx to shoot two of his music videos ‘Voice of the Streets’ and ‘Stupid Love’. He has since directed videos for stars, including D’Banj’s ‘Don’t Tell Me Nonsense’ video.
4. Adasa Cookey
This music video director with more than seven years experience has won multiple awards for his works. The Graduate of Architecture consolidated his talent in the field of music video directing by attending the Del York Film Academy. He has gone ahead to direct many smash hit music videos, including Adekunle Gold’s Ariwo Ko.
5. Kemi Adetiba
Kemi Adetiba is one of the leading female music video directors in Nigeria. The 37-year-old started out professionally as a radio presenter with Rhythm 93.7 FM, where she became the voice behind two nationally syndicated hit shows: Soul’d Out and Sunday at the Seaside. She attended the New York Film Academy and is the woman behind many hit videos in the country and beyond. Her works include: Niyola’s Last Bus-stop“, Wiz Kid’s Dance Go featuring Tuface, Olamide’s Anifowose among others.
