Fountain University sued for forcefully taking possession of 87,109 acres of land
Fountain University, Osogbo, Osun State, a private university owned by Nasrul-Iahi-li Fathi Society of Nigeria, NASFAT, a Muslim prayer group, has been alleged of fraudulently and forcefully taken possession of 87,109 acres of land belonging to three families, Alawaye’s, Alojo’s and Olufon’s family of Isale Osun in Osun State.
When the case came up in Court, the University claimed that the large expanse of land in dispute was given to them by the late Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Iyiola Matanmi 11 and without the knowledge or involvement of the concerned families, a claim the court finds incredible as the said parcel of land did not belong to the late monarch.
The late paramount ruler, it was learnt couldn’t have sold land he did not own or had authority over. Unfortunately, the highly revered monarch could not be represented in court to explain his role in this messy land deal as he had passed on.
Delivering his ruling, the trial judge, Justice David Afolabi of Osogbo High Court, sitting in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, ordered for a fresh trial of the case and for all parties to maintain status quo
