On Tuesday, some students of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti, Ekiti State (FUOYE) staged a peaceful protest over poor power supply in the community.
The peaceful demonstration, however, turned bloody after some hoodlums hijacked it and engaged police operatives.
According to multiple reports, two students were shot dead while others were injured. The injured students were reportedly rushed to the medical centre of the institution.
WuzupNaija also gathered that the office of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company and a police van was set ablaze.
A student of the institution who spoke to our correspondent confirmed that at least two people died during the protest.
As of the time of filing this report, the student union public relations officer could not be reached as his number was switched off.
