Russia fines Google

Google has launched Google for Non-Profit in Nigeria which is aimed at empowering non-profit organizations by providing them with free premium services.

Google for Non-Profit organizations gives access to a collection of premium apps at no cost. This is however for qualified organizations. This means that qualified organizations will have access to programs such as Google Ad Grants, G-suite for non-profits, as well as YouTube’s non-profit program.

This new approach is to enable non-profit organizations to work quickly and efficiently so as to reach a large audience, push supporters into action, and write a compelling story. The organizations can also qualify for a grant of up to $10,000 a month for the next 6 months (ends October 2020). This will be spent on text-based ads among other things.

Note that the NPOs that will eligible for the Google for Non-profits program must be a registered non-profit charitable organization in Nigeria and must also be verified by TechSoup Nigeria. Check out the criteria at https://www.google.com/nonprofits/eligibility/.

“Nonprofits face unique challenges when making decisions about what technology to acquire amid competing demands for funding and resources. Our overall goal is to provide access to tools and technology quickly and effectively so that these organizations can focus their efforts and resources directly towards achieving their goals,” says the Head, Government Affairs and Public Policy, West Africa, Google, Titi Akinsanmi.

In other news, Google has also announced that Google.org will be giving grants to Teach for Nigeria. Teach Nigeria is a non-profit organization focused on supporting students in underserved communities in Nigeria while schools are still on the lockdown.
