Gunmen kidnap Nasarawa governor’s special adviser

Suspected gunmen have kidnapped Mr. John Waje Mamman, the Special Adviser to Nasarawa State Governor on Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Community Development.

Mamman was kidnapped last Saturday night by gunmen in his house at Dari Town in Kokona Local Government Area of the state.

The senior government official was kidnapped in his house where he was with his friends and was whisked away by the gunmen who shot sporadically into the air to scare people away during the operation.

The eye witness further explained as reported by Daily Trust that one of the suspected kidnappers was apprehended by some youths in the community.

As at the time of filing this report, the suspected kidnappers are yet to make contact with the commissioner’s family or raise any demand.

However, when contacted, Police spokesman, ASP Ramhan Nansel said,

“The state command has not been informed yet.”

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested one Wasiu Bankole, 25, for allegedly raping a 70-year-old woman.

WuzupNigeria reports that detectives from Agbado division in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of the state arrested the suspect on Wednesday less than 24 hours after he reportedly committed the crime.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed the incident Thursday, said the suspect had confessed to the crime.

Oyeyemi disclosed that the septuagenarian rape victim (name withheld) reported at the Agbado division that while she was sleeping in her house on Tuesday, the suspect broke in and forcefully had carnal knowledge of her.

He said:

“The suspect was arrested following a report by the victim who reported at Agbado division that while she was sleeping in her house on the 2nd of June 2020, at Abule Lemode area of Ijoko at about 8:00pm, the suspect suddenly broke into her room, held her down and forcefully had carnal knowledge of her against her consent.

“The victim stated further that it was one of her neighbours who heard her screaming that came to rescue her by using a stick to hit the suspect at his back consequent upon which he jumped off her and ran away leaving his clothes, shoe and torchlight inside her room.

“Upon the report, the DPO Agbado division, SP Kuranga Yero, dispatched his detectives to look for the suspect and bring him to justice. The detectives succeeded in getting him arrested 24 hours after and brought him to the station.

“On interrogation, he confessed committing the crime but claimed to have acted under the influence of alcohol.”

Oyeyemi, however, stated that the victim had been taken to the hospital for medical attention.

He added that the state Commissioner of Police, Kenneth Ebrimson, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to Anti-human Trafficking and Child Labour Unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and diligent prosecution.

Police free 42-year-old man who raped seven-year-old IDP

There is serious anger in the Nguru area of Yobe State following the decision of the Nigeria Police Force to release a man who serially raped a seven-year-old internally displaced girl.

The girl, it was gathered lives with her mother in a camp at Garbi, a suburb of Nguru town, after they fled insurgents attacks.

According to Sahara Reporters, an activist based in Nguru who is working to get justice for the family of the victim (name withheld) said people of the area are outraged after they saw the perpetrator of the crime, Danladi Naira, walking freely in the town.

Describing how the alleged rapist was nabbed, he said:

“The rapist always picks the girl on her way to Islamiyya and rape her.”

Kaduna man sentenced to death for raping two-year-old to death in 2015

A Kaduna State High Court sitting in Dogarawa Sabon Gari in Zaria on Wednesday sentenced one Usman Shehu Bashir to death by hanging for raping a two-year-old girl to death.

The Presiding Judge, Justice Kabir Dabo, said the convict had confessed to committing the offence, adding that relying on Section 221of the Penal Code, he was sentencing him to death by hanging.

The case started on the 23 March 2015 and lasted for five years.

Justice Dabo said,

“On the fateful day, the convict took the late Fatima to his room and for about 40 minutes, he raped her which led to her death.”

After passing the judgment Justice Kabir Dabo said the convict has the right to appeal within 90 days of the judgment.

In her reaction, the State Counsel Barrister Jummai Dan Azimi said the Court has done justice to the case.

Father of late Fatima, Malam Zakariya Ya’u Dahiru said the judgment passed on Usman has justified what he did to his daughter.
