Gunmen have shot dead a father and his son in the Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.

The Chairman of the LGA, Anthony Shior, told reporters that the victims were killed by herdsmen.

He said,

“As usual, the herdsmen on Friday night killed a father and son in a community close to Gbajimba.”

Meanwhile, over 20 hoodlums, in the early hours of Saturday, set ablaze the Roman Catholic Church Primary School in Aya, where the electoral materials for the Mbalom ward in Gwer East LGA of the state were kept.

A source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the gangsters shot indiscriminately on arrival before setting the school on fire. The source said the electoral materials were burnt.

An electoral officer in the LGA, Mrs Ngunan Yongo, confirmed the development.

However, she said no official of the Independent National Electoral Commission was killed by the hoodlums.

Another INEC official, Mr Thaddeus Ujah, said electoral officers fled from the school on sighting the gunmen.

Ujah said he could not ascertain the number of ad hoc workers still missing after the attack.

Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Umar Muri, said he was not aware of the attack.
