Gunmen kill man, rape daughter in Delta
A middle-aged man, Daniel Benwari, has been assassinated in his home at Abuelo Quarters of Issele-Azagba, in Aniocha North Local Government Area, Delta State.
The victim was shot dead, while his daughter was raped by the assailants.
This came barely three weeks after a director in the state Ministry of Works was assassinated at his project site at Illah in Oshimili North Local Government Area.
Benwari’s killers abducted his wife, Mrs Helen Benwari, and assaulted his daughter, Ebie, around 7 p.m. before killing him.
The victim’s neighbour, who pleaded anonymity, said the assailants wore masks. He explained that the gunmen had earlier held the deceased’s wife and then forced her to take them to her husband.
The mother of the victim, Mrs Ajeke Attah, who was residing with them, said his killers also took the phones and shoes of her son away.
“They knocked on the door, we begged them but they refused. We had locked the protector. My son went in to get the keys to the doors. As soon as he opened the door, the people followed his wife into the house and shot my son as he tried to close the door. They took his phones, shoes and assaulted his daughter,” she said.
Pastor Ezekiel Ogunleye of the Celestial Church of Christ [CCC] at Abuelo Quarters was also attacked in the same community.
Another victim, Mr Joshua Johnson, narrowly escaped being killed.
