Gunmen kill two soldiers in Plateau village, steal their rifles
Gunmen have killed two soldiers in Miango community, Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau state.
Eyes witnesses said on Saturday that the soldiers were on patrol of the community along Ancha village road when the gunmen ambushed them.
A villager, Mr Yohanna Gado, confirmed the incident.
He said that victims died on the spot while their rifles were carted away by the gunmen during the incident which occurred on Friday evening
Gado said,
“We heard gunshots around 6:15pm which lasted until around 7:45pm. And when the sound of the gunshots ceased, we came out and ran to the direction of the gunshots only to discover the body of two soldiers lying on the ground dead without their rifles with them.
“The soldiers were from our community, I don’t know their names but they were very friendly and loved our community people better cause they always patrol the villages with their motorbikes and they normally give us good advice on security as well. So, the community is really feeling too bad about the loss of good innocent soldiers who came to serve their motherland.
A spokesman for Miango Youth Development Association, Mr Lawrence Zongo also confirmed the incident
He said that their corpses had been evacuated to the mortuary.
“When the incident happened, some soldiers came and took away the two corpses. The situation was really unfortunate because I followed them to the scene of the incident. Those who perpetrated the acts should not be left to go unpunished,” he said.
Spokesman of the State Police Command, ASP Ubah Gabriel Ogaba when contacted referred our correspondent to the Media Officer of the Special Task Force in the state, otherwise known as Operation Safe Haven, Major Ibrahim Shitu for comment on the incident.
However , several calls put across to his mobile phone were not responded to as at press time.
