He couldn’t even muster courage to say ‘thank you’ after being sworn-in, Fani-Kayode mocks Buhari

A former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has mocked President Muhammadu Buhari over his failure to deliver an inaugural address after being sworn-in for a second term on Wednesday.

Fani-Kayode took to his Twitter page after the inauguration to lambaste the President.

He described the President’s failure to follow the custom of delivering an inaugural address as a ‘shame’.

He tweeted:

The world over, Presidents, Governors and other newly-inaugurated public office holders read out a prepared inaugural speech at the venue of their inauguration to present their vision and outline their goals for the nation or state they would be leading.

Buhari took many by surprise yesterday after taking the oath of office and refused to step forward to the rostrum to address the nation and outline his goals for the next four years.

Recall that during his swearing-in in 2015, Buhari set the Nigerian media abuzz with his inaugural address titled “I am for everybody, I am for nobody”, a phrase that became famous and set tongues wagging.

It is not clear why the President refused to follow the custom when he took the oath of office for a second and final term yesterday.
