Herdsman defiles six-year-old girl in Osun
A herdsman living in Oba Ile, a town in Osun State, Issa Abiodun Umaru, has been arrested for defiling a 6-year old girl.
The victim (name withheld), it was learnt was sent on an errand when the said herdsman, whose cows were grazing along the road, accosted her and took her into a nearby bush where he defiled her.
In a chat with PUNCH Metro, mother of the victim, simply identified as Mrs Oladunmoye, narrating how the incident happened, explained that her daughter was sent to buy fruit juice for her sibling at a nearby shop.
“On her way, she saw cows blocking the road and she was scared. The herdsman that was with the cows, having realised the girl was terrified, offered to assist. Rather than doing that, he took the girl to a nearby bush and defiled her. When I was called and I arrived at the scene, my daughter’s cloth was soaked with blood. Through the assistance of Vigilante Group members, the perpetrator was arrested and handed over to the police. He was brought to me at the hospital yesterday (Monday) and I identified him as the perpetrator. My daughter is presently lying sick in the hospital. Apart from the money already spent, we urgently need a sum of N84,000 to buy drugs and other things needed for her treatment,” Oladunmoye said.
When contacted, Police Public Relations Officer for Osun Command, Folasade Odoro, said about 10:00 am on Monday 30th December at Oba-Ile, a 6-year old girl was reportedly defiled by a 19-year-old of the same community.
She said the suspect has been arrested while the victim has been taken to Ladoke Akintola University Teaching Hospital, Osogbo for treatment.
Commenting on the development, the chairperson, International Federation of Women Lawyers, Osun State chapter, Folasade-Julius Adekanmi, urged parents to monitor closely their wards, especially during the festive season.
She said tendencies for sex perverts to attack unsuspecting victims could be high during festivities, adding that the incident of alleged defilement of the six-year-old girl in Oba Ile would be monitored by FIDA members to ensure that justice is served.
