Herdsmen reportedly kidnap two in Delta, release them after N30m ransom

Police rescue four kidnap victims in Imo



The Police in Delta have confirmed the kidnapped of a youth spokesman, Mr. Alex Ovwokpakafe, by herdsmen who attacked  Afiesere community in Ughelli North Local Government Area of the state.

The police also said one other person, Mr. Johnson Odibo, was also abducted by the gunmen in the incident that occurred on 11 February 2020.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Hafiz Mohammed Inuwa, who spoke through the “B Divisional Police Officer ( DPO )”, Ughelli North, said he was aware of the kidnapped incident.

He, however, denied knowledge of any ransom being paid for their release.

WuzupNigeria gathered that the herdsmen killed a carpenter during the attack on the community. The carpenter was said to have been working on a site belong to Mr. Johnson Odibo.

“During the process, one of the workers, working in the site, on siting the herdsmen flee away for safety,” a source said.

“The herdsmen have been around the community observing Mr Johnson Odibo for over four days, until he was finally kidnapped on Tuesday, February 11, 2020. On his building site.

“Unfortunately Mr Alex Ovwokpakafe who reportedly went to the site to collect his money from Mr Johnson, was kidnapped along side with (Mr Odibo) who is the target.

“The kidnappers took their victims to the next community (Ufuoma) in Ughelli North, through bush part, and later took them to Agbara community where they camp the victims for a night.

“The next day, the herdsmen gave their victims food without meat, prepared by another herdsmen who brought the food for them in the bush. But the victims refused eating and throw away the food.

“The victims where later taken to Oteri community, in Ughelli North, through bush, on their way Mr Johnson Odibo collapsed (as a result of high blood pressure) after the herdsmen threatened to shoot them if they fail to call their families to pay a ransom of thirty million (N30,000,000).

“The herdsmen later gave Mr. Odibo phone to call his family, but he called his bank manager to release the sum of N30m to his brother which the bank manager refused. Mr odibo shouted at the bank manager to release the funds or “do you want them to kill me so that you will use my money to trade?’

“The money was later loaded in a sack and drop at the specified location which the herdsmen asked them to drop the money on Monday February 17, 2020. After which the victims where released and taken out of the bush to a nearby road where they can easily access their way back home.

“The herdsmen told them that they are going to the next community to raid the community because they had that the community killed one of their member.

The victims finally reunited with their families after a good citizen saw them and gave them a lift to their community (Afiesere) in Ughelli North Local Government Area.
