Hilarious reactions trail man’s attempt to change ‘UP NEPA’ to ‘Power Has Been Restored’
That every society has its own idiosyncrasies cannot be gainsaid and for Nigerians, one is screaming UP NEPA anytime electricity is restored after a period of seizure.
Now it is an agelong tradition that started with National Electric Power Authority [NEPA] the agency governing the use of electricity in Nigeria. Though the name of the agency as since been changed to Power Holding Company of Nigeria [PHCN], Nigerians just cannot seem to stop from shouting UP NEPA anytime power is restored.
So, when a Nigerian, who goes by the moniker Yᴏᴜʀ Gʀᴀᴄᴇ✝️/@ArchBishopSkies on Twitter, attempted to persuade his countrymen to change from NEPA to ‘Power has been restored’, his compatriots graciously rejected it in various funny and witty tweets.
He wrote,
Dear Nigerians, It Is Not “Up Nepa” It Is “Power Has Been Restored”
— Yᴏᴜʀ Gʀᴀᴄᴇ✝️ (@ArchBishopSkies) 26 October 2019
But Nigerians are having none of it and have said,
It’s a Generational tradition and our fundamental Human Rights to shout “Up Nepa!!!!” anything order than that is a crime under section 2, subsection 4 of the power act. Be guided
