Hunger, poverty driving Nigerians into gay act, says Jaywon
Nigerian singer Iledare Oluwajuwonlo popularly known as Jaywon has said most Nigerians involved in homosexual acts are driven into the act by hunger and poverty.
Recall that homosexual acts are punishable by up to 14 years in jail in Nigeria, while gay marriage and displays of same-sex affection are also banned.
Since a law criminalising same-sex marriage and gay organisations was passed in 2013 during the administration of Goodluck Jonathan, security operatives have consistently clamped down on those suspected to be involved in the acts.
Jaywon in a post via his Instagram story on Thursday said some of the gays in Nigeria are not truly happy being gay but the harsh economic condition led them into it in their quest for livelihood.

“Sometimes I wish to ask some of these gays in Nigeria why they are doing it because we all know, only a few are born out of a wish to swap it the other way aside from that na hunger and poverty make some turn gay and no be say them wan do am or happy doing it.
