I struck him once, says man accused of beheading villager in Osun

The Osun State Commissioner of Police, Johnson Kokumo, on Thursday, paraded one Idowu Adejare for allegedly beheading a man and dumped the head in a forest.

Adejare was said to have gone to the deceased, one James Yankume, house with a cutlass and dane gun, chased him and the wife out of the house and eventually inflicted several machete cuts on his body.

The incident happened in Ikotun Village,  Awo, a community in Egbedore Local Government after a misunderstanding between the duo.

However, Idowu said he killed his victim to protect himself from the deceased’s threat to kill and severe his (Idowu’s) head.

“On several occasions, James had threatened to kill me, telling me some persons have paid for my head. We argued the previous day and he repeated the same thing. So while we were fighting the next day he tried to cut my head with a cutlass but it was not penetrating.

“However, when I struck him once, his head rolled on the floor. I took the head a throw it into the forest. I severed his head so that those who contracted him to kill me will see his body and know I overpowered him”, he added.

Also paraded were suspected armed robbers arrested by men of Operation “PUFF ADDER” on patrol along RCC llesa/Akure Express road, Ile-Ife.

The commissioner said the patrol team intercepted Babatunde Odunayo aged 29 years, Akinola Tosin, who had claimed to be military
personnel.

He said the suspects were believed to have engaged in armed robbery, impersonation and obtaining money from a POS operator, while operating at Ajebamidele Area, lle Ife.

“The two men with their UBA ATM intended to withdraw N50 000 of which the ATM card was not functioning. The acclaimed Army personnel threatened the victim with sword and jackknife when the POS operator refused to hand over the sum of N50,000 to them for his non-receipt of a credit alert in like sum.

“Also, another complainant was also robbed of N30,000 at his POS stand by the same set of gang. Moreso, on 24th February 2020, the same gang went to Ipetumodu with their usual modus operandi which eventually led to their arrest by Operation “PUFF ADDER” patrol team,” Kokumo said.

He advised criminals to relocate out of the state, as the command would ensure zero tolerance for crime, adding that all suspects would be charged to court on conclusion of investigation.
