Imo APGA, PDP rejects Okorocha’s victory

Published

The Imo state chapter of the All Progressives Grand Alliance(APGA), has rejected the result which declared the governor of the state, Rochas Okorocha as the winner of the Imo west senatorial election.

The APGA governorship candidate in Imo west, Senator Osita Izunaso, who briefed journalists shortly after the final result was announced on Monday, said that governor Okorocha of the All Progress Congress manipulated the process.

According to Izunaso, Okorocha allegedly stormed the final collation centre in Orlu LGA with thugs and compelled the returning officer, Prof Francis Ibeawuchi, to declare the winner at variance with the electoral act.

Izunaso who was in the Senate between 2007 and 2011 said that he had petitioned INEC over the alleged flawed process.

The APGA candidate who said that he won the elections in seven out of the twelve LGAs in the senatorial district, said that the governor mutilated the results at the LGA collation centers.

Izunaso said,

“this is a gory development. This is the worst election since the creation of Imo state. A lot of malpractices happened. No result was collated at ward levels, all collation officers were at LGAs, it happened at my oru west LGA.”

” It is against the electoral act, Okorocha used thugs to hijack the process, I won in seven LGAs. Okorocha took the result sheets and rewrote the results. The results were deeply mutilated. They held the electoral officer hostage. Okorocha forced him to declare a false result. He declared it at gun point. Under duress, there was no declaration. It should be canceled. I have petitioned INEC already.”

Also, the People’s Democratic Party has rejected the outcome of the election which took place at Ohaji Egbema/Oguta/Oru West federal which declared Kingsley Uju of the Action Alliance as the winner.

The PDP publicity Secretary in the state, Damian Opara, who briefed journalists in Owerri, said that the winner used the police and military men to allegedly rig the process.

Opara alleged that the final result which was announced by INEC did not conform with the figures announced at the booth and ward levels.

Calling on INEC to declare its candidate, Obed Acholonu as the rightful winner, PDP said that the use of security men to intimidate the voters was unfortunate.
