Football has gone beyond just being a game, it is a business, it unites people of diverse colour, race and religion, while to some, it is an art because of the poetic skills of the commentators.

Lovers of the round leather game love the game for different reasons, some do because of the entertainment they derive from watching the display of skills and talent by the footballers, while others do because of the joy of listening to the commentators.

Any true lover of football is familiar with names like Peter Drury, Martin Tyler, Jon Champion, Jim Beglin. No! they are not footballers neither are they coaches nor technical advisers, their job is not in any way on the football pitch, but it is about the football game. They are football commentators who have won the heart of football fans across the world with their iconic football commentaries.

One stands out among these men, he is Peter Drury, a wordsmith with a widely-acclaimed skill of brightening up the dullest of football games.

Football fans love him for the way he spices up their viewing experiences with his poetic commentaries.

One of his iconic commentaries which earned him global accolades was his narration of Roma’s Champions League victory over Barcelona in April 2018.

Roma were defeated by four goals to one at the Nou Camp but came back in dramatic fashion in the second leg to make it into the semi-finals.

In the last 10 minutes, Kostas Manolas headed in a corner to send the Stadio Olympico wild.
