CAF Awards: It only made the victory sweeter, Oshoala reacts to Nigerian delegates refusing to vote her
Super Falcons and Barcelona star Asisat Oshoala has reacted to the voting pattern of Nigerian delegates for the men and women categories of the African Player of the Year awards.
Oshoala won the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Women Player of the Year Award on Tuesday night for a record fourth time.
She was only able to win due to votes she garnered from coaches and captains of national teams, as she was second with 129 votes from the media, technical and legends voters, behind Nchout who 133 votes.
The coach and captain of Nigeria national team voted Oshoala as their third choice behind Kgatlana and Nchout.
Nigerians on social media were shocked when CAF released the voting pattern which showed that only Nwankwo Kanu and Perpetua Nkwocha voted Oshoala and Ighalo as their best choice for the men and women Player of the Year Award.
Oshoala said the voting pattern of Nigerian delegates only made her victory sweeter.
In a tweet via her handle in reaction to the report, she said it is a confirmation that she is “child of the continent”.
She tweeted:
“It only made the victory more sweet …..CHILD OF THE CONTINENT. It’s a blessing to know how much lives I’ve touched and inspired across AFRICA in my young age. All love from this side.”
