It will end in tears, Nigerians say as Tammy Abraham, Fikayo Tomori get England call
Microblogging platform, Twitter, exploded on Thursday after Tammy Abraham and Fikayo Tomori – both of Nigeria descent – were named in the England squad that will face the Czech Republic and Bulgaria in the European Qualifiers.
Nigerians had hoped 22 years old Abraham, a striker, and defender Tomori, 21, would choose to play for the Super Eagles over the Three Lions.
What an honour to get my first @England call up. Can’t wait to link up with the squad?. pic.twitter.com/DMkmwPFY9T

Nigerians were, however, disappointed after both players tweeted their happiness at the calls and launched scathing attacks on the duo. Citing examples of John Fashanu and Gabriel Agbonlahor, most Twitter commenters believed the Chelsea duo’s international careers will be over soon.
Used and dumped players also cited include late Ugochuku Ehiogu, Nedum Onuoha, and Carlton Cole.
WuzupNigeria reports that 53-year-old Fashanu, who also had the opportunity to play for either Nigeria or England in 1989, chose the Three Lions over the Super Eagles. His international career ended after just two games in the English jersey. Agbonlahor, 31, did better and played just three matches.
One Nigeria Twitter user, Mens que (@Nairacodes), was blunt in his assessment of the situation, noting simply that “it will end in tears”.
It will end in tears bro, ask John Fashanu and all others before you. https://t.co/TOJVef6F7r

Another Twitter user, @ikchils cautioned the duo against the call-up, saying it might be a trap
,
It’s a trap..check other Nigerians they used to trap and then never to play them again…Nigeria will forever play you…you have a better chance even winning in Nigeria

Tammy told the @thenff he would only make his decision in April 2020 and they believed him. Truth is he was waiting for an England call up and he knew if he performed for club during this period Southgate would definitely call him up.

Neither are some Nigerians fussed about it. We love them both regardless of their choices.
D point is don’t diminish their heritage. It’s not within your means to do so.
What you’ve stated – them not being Nigerians – isn’t a fact. D fact is they arent Nigerian internationals.— Azeez OKEYALE (@okeyaleazeez) 3 October 2019
Congrats baba ..stay with your decision oo ..the future will tell …down the line on the next decade and more ..We don’t want to hear exclusive on daily mail and the sun …” Why I didn’t choose Nigeria yen yen “ …
