Joke Silva asks Sky News to pull down derogatory article on African hairstyle
Nollywood actress, Joke Silva, has urged British media house, Sky News, to take down an article in which a popular thread hairstyle was described as a ‘coronavirus haircut.’
The 58-year-old voiced her opinion on Saturday.
She wrote,
Thanks @moabudu and @ebonylife…@skynews, on behalf of myself and many other African women who have shown their displeasure of this post, ( spiky coronavirusvhairstyle)I would like to urge you to take this post down as soon as possible. It is derogatory and condescending to us, our forefathers, our foremothers and generations to come.
For future reference, @skynews kindly #Swipeleft to see pictures from the monograph by @ccalagos on the late famous Nigerian photographer J.D. OkhaiOjeikere and edited by the late curator of contemporary art from Africa Ms Bisi Silva. These both predate the COVID-19. Go figure.
