#JusticeforStephen: Hoodlums stab medical doctor, dies a day after convocation
Medical doctors at the College of Medicine University of Lagos (CMUL), Idi-Araba in Mushin area of Lagos have been thrown into mourning following the death of one of their colleagues stabbed by hoodlums on Thursday.
The deceased identified as Dr. Stephen Urueye was one of the graduates who had their convocation at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) on Wednesday before the unfortunate incident that cut short his life.
He was reportedly stabbed by hoodlums who were trying to rob him of his valuables outside the gate of the medical facility and died after several efforts to resuscitate him was futile.
Following his death, some of his colleagues and other Nigerians have taken to Twitter to lament over his murder and also seek justice for him with the hashtag #JusticeForStephen.
One of the medical doctors at LUTH Dr. Adanikin Gbenga while narrating the incident to WuzupNaija said:
“Stephen was coming back into LUTH on Thursday evening when he was stopped by hoodlums who robbed then stabbed him.
“About 9:50pm last night, a classmate (who works at LUTH) suddenly said that Stephen has been stabbed. So my classmates in LUTH convened at the Accident and Emergency unit (I wasn’t in LUTH as at when this happened). They started trying to resuscitate him, the CPR lasted over an hour and his heartbeat came back.
“Around 12 am he was taken to the intensive care unit so he can be on life support. So I went to bed with some peace of mind.
“However, I was unable to sleep as I kept having nightmares. So I woke up, checked my phone and saw the message that he suffered another cardiac arrest and he never came back from that one.”
He further stated that they are agitated over the incident because incidents, as such have been occurring in the past and authorities of LUTH have not taken any action to beef up security around the health facility.
“Why we are so agitated is because . Although I know of no deaths but people have been injured or threatened with weapons to give up their personal belongings and nothing has been done.
“When I was still at the medical school in my 300 level, various reading rooms all over campus were robbed and it took students protesting by shutting down the gate completely before the management could take action over it. But the robberies around (outside) Luth’s vicinity never really halted and they’re always accompanied by violence or a threat of violence.”
