Kano State has recorded 38 more coronavirus infections as the testing rate increased in the North-Western state.
This brings the total number of confirmed cases in the state to 115 while the total confirmed infections in the country jumped to 1532, according to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control on Tuesday night.
“195 new cases of #COVID19 reported; 80 – Lagos, 38 – Kano, 15 – Ogun, 15 – Bauchi, 11 – Borno, 10 – Gombe, 9 – Sokoto, 5 – Edo, 5 – Jigawa, 2 – Zamfara, 1 – Rivers, 1 – Enugu, 1 – Delta, 1 – FCT, 1 – Nasarawa.
“As at 11:50 pm 28th April- 1532 confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported in Nigeria,” the Centre announced, adding that the total recoveries and fatalities in the country were 255 and 44 respectively.
Earlier on Tuesday, the NCDC Director-General, Chikwe Ihekweazu, said COVID-19 testing has recommenced in Kano State after a few days of setback.
He said while the testing centre at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital had restarted operations, the centre at the Bayero University Kano would commence operations on Wednesday.
“Thanks to incredible efforts of a joint team from the NCDC, Kano State Ministry of Health, Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital and our partners, the COVID-19 lab at AKTH, Kano is back up and testing has resumed. A second laboratory at Bayero University Kano will be activated tomorrow. (We) are not where we want to be yet but will keep pushing,” he tweeted.
The Kano State Government had accused the Federal Government, the Ministry of Health and the NCDC of abandoning the state amid the pandemic.
Amongst its displeasures were non-functional COVID-19 testing centres in the state.
However, during his nationwide broadcast on Monday night, the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), while declaring a 14-day lockdown in the state, said efforts were being renewed to assist the state in containing COVID-19.
