Kidnappers release five persons in Delta after ransom payment

Five people who were kidnapped at a bad spot on Onicha-Ugbo/Idumuje-Ugboko/Abuja road in Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State have regained their freedom after payment of ransom.

The Delta State Police Command confirmed the release of the victims, who were allegedly kidnapped by suspected Fulani herdsmen.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Delta State, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya on Sunday said the command is intensifying efforts to arrest the kidnappers who have been terrorizing the environs.

“Investigation is ongoing to arrest the kidnappers but we thank God that the victims were rescued in good faith” he stressed.

WuzupNigeria gathered that the victims were held hostage for five days by their abductors before they were released on Friday after payment of ransom.

One of the victims and a driver of Sienna bus that was tracked down by the kidnappers at the bad spot, Mr Habid Abdulsalem, who narrated his ordeal, said that the kidnappers were speaking Fulani language.

He said,

“When I was trying to slow down through the pothole on that road, I was ordered to stop at gunpoint. They were six armed men carried AK47 and one with a pump-action rifle.

“They took us to to a bush near Agbor and Igbanke for five days and contacted our families with our phones, demanding for ransom which we all paid. Some pay between N200,000 to N600,000 while they collected millions of naira from others.”

It was learnt that the hoodlums usually operate between 5pm and 7pm at the road hunting for ‘big men’ to kidnap.
