Kogi govt. promises sustained collaboration with private schools
The Kogi government has promised to sustain effective collaboration with the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) for quality education delivery in the state.
The state Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Mr. Wemi Jones, gave the assurance when the executives NAPPS, led by its President, Dr. Habeeb Yaqeen, paid him a visit on Tuesday in Lokoja.
Jones assured the group that the government would continue to cooperate and collaborate with them to ensure the delivery of quality education at all levels in the state.
He called on relevant stakeholders in the state to imbibe the spirit of sacrifice and work towards alleviating the challenges envisaged as a result of the devastating effect of COVID-19 on the sector.
The commissioner, who said that the government was not unaware of the various challenges facing the sector, urged the association to seek the support of relevant organizations like CBN and other donor agencies for the sector.
On the reopening of schools, Jones urged the stakeholders to continue to observe all the safety protocols, saying that schools would be reopened as soon as the directive was received from the Federal Government.
He assured that the state government would continue to work hand-in-hand with the Federal Government and other stakeholders for the reopening of schools at the appropriate time.
Earlier, the NAPPS President, Dr. Habeeb Yaqeen, sought for the intervention of the state government in the areas of salary for their staffers and tax holidays for private schools.
He also appealed for the government’s assistance in the area of infrastructure in their schools due to the devastating effect of a storm during the compulsory stay-at-home due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
