Tinubu’s daughter, MC Oluomo to supervise FG recruitment exercise
The Federal Government has appointed All Progressives Congress chieftain, Alhaji Mutiu Are; the daughter of APC national leader and Iyaloja-General, Folasade Tinubu-Ojo; and the Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers in Lagos State, Musiliu Akinsanya aka MC Oluomo into the 20-member committee that will undertake the recruitment of 20,000 youths in Lagos.
Others appointed include former local government chairman, Kayode Elesin; the Commissioner for Works, Bamgbose Martins; the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Alexander Bamgbola; Commissioner for Rural Development, Cornelius Ojelabi; and APC woman leader for Lagos-Central, Mrs Fadekemi Otitonaiye.
Former Chief Whip of the Lagos House of Assembly, Omotayo Oduntan-Oyelodun; a member of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s campaign team, Wale Adelana; are also on the committee.
Three monarchs were included in the committee alongside seven others- Prof. Tajudeen Gbadamosi; Mrs Modupe Ola, Ashiru Olakunle, Labrar Folami, Olufeko Adebowale, Serena Edward and Akanni Babatunde.
The Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Mr Festus Keyamo (SAN), named Are as the chairman and Elesin as the vice-chairman.
Keyamo had on Monday inaugurated, by virtual means, the 20-member committees in the 36 States and the FCT that will select the 1000 persons per Local government area that would be engaged by the Federal Government in the Special Public Works Programme.
The programme seeks to employ about 774, 000 youths for three months and they would be engaged in unskilled jobs such as sweeping streets, clearing drainages, controlling traffic and road construction among others.
They are to be paid N20,000 a month.
According to the Federal Government, interested youths are allowed to apply regardless of political affiliation.
Keyamo had earlier on Tuesday alleged that politicians were trying to hijack the recruitment.
‘Beware of fraudsters, recruitment into NSCDC is on hold’
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps [NSCDC] has refuted reports of an ongoing recruitment process and urged Nigerians to disregard text messages inviting them for interviews.
Ekunola Gbenga, the Media Assistant to the Commandant General of NSCDC, in a statement, said the agency has put all recruitment exercises on hold due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
“The attention of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has been drawn to the activities of some fraudulent persons using various dubious means ranging from text messages, social media platforms and forged letters to invite unsuspecting members of the public for job interviews in a purported recruitment exercise by the Corps,” he said.
“In the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps NSCDC, our top priority is the wellbeing of our country and community.
“We are monitoring the ongoing Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation and are continuing to follow the latest Government advice.
“To keep everyone as safe as possible, we have decided to put on hold our recruitment process but all shortlisted applications remain ‘live’.
“In view of this, it has become necessary to state firstly, that the NSCDC is not currently conducting any form of interview, training or screening.
“Whenever such an exercise is imminent, members of the public would be duly informed through the NSCDC official website, National dailies as well as on our official social media handles.’
“Furthermore, the NSCDC recruitment process is devoid of recruitment agents, hence anyone who claims to be operating in such capacity on behalf of the Corps is a fraudster.
“The Commandant General, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu wishes to advise prospective applicants to promptly report anyone who solicits for payments for recruitment into the Corps to the nearest NSCDC formations.
I will resign from Buhari’s government if… – Keyamo
The Minister of State, Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo, has vowed to resign if the recruitment of 774, 000 persons is hijacked by politicians.
Keyamo said this while inaugurating the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Extended Special Public Works Across the 774 Local Government Areas of the Federation on Wednesday.
Recall that Buhari had on April 6, approved the engagement of 774, 000 Nigerians on the Special Public Works programme in the country.
The approval was given in a bid to tackle the effect of COVID-19 across the country.
Speaking to the committee set up to strategize for the implementation of the job creation, Keyamo noted that the pilot scheme was approved to be implemented in five local government areas in eight states of Adamawa, Borno, Ebonyi, Edo, Ekiti, Jigawa, Katsina and Kwara.
When asked if the recruitment process won’t be hijacked by politicians, Kayamo assured that it won’t happen, adding that the jobs were not meant for either APC or PDP members.
“This is not for PDP or APC, I assure you it will not happen.
“I will leave this job if they want to insist that it will happen. Mr. President is targeting ordinary Nigerians who are neither PDP, APC, nor just anything. They just want to get jobs, they just want to feed their family.
“This is not a time for us to empower our followers as politicians. We are going to dig deep, it is one of the recommendations you are going to make, that is why you are here.” Vanguard quoted him as saying.
