Lamentations as “mysterious black soot” take over Port Harcourt
Residents of Port Harcourt, the capital city of Rivers State have taken to the social media to complain about a mysterious black soot causing all sorts of respiratory difficulties for them. The residents suggest that the mysterious soot whose source is yet to be determined has caused many cough in many children and they fear that it may be the harbinger of worse diseases in years to come.
Some of the residents suggest that the soot was coming from an illegal refinery some where close to the city housing more than 2 million people.
Some health conscious residents have advised everyone leaving in the city to use nose mask and eat a lot of tomatoes to, at least counter the effect of the soot a bit.
Responding to the social media outcry, the Ministry of Health via its twitter handle begged the residents to bear with it until investigations are concluded. The ministry assured the people that samples of the soot have been taken to the laboratory for proper test. The ministry tweeted that it is working to forestall future occurrence.
See some of the complaints below.
