Lassa Fever kills District Head in Bauchi

The District Head of Toro, in Toro local government area of Bauchi state, Alhaji Garba Adamu, has been killed by Lassa fever the state Governor, Bala Mohammed, has disclosed.

This was contained in a media statement made available to newsmen in Bauchi by the Special Assistant to the Governor on New media, Lawal Muazu, on Monday.

The late Adamu who is also the Katukan Bauchi died on March 13th, 2020 at the National Hospital, Abuja where he was taken to for medical attention.

The Governor disclosed this when he paid an advocacy visit to the Director-General of the Center for Disease Control, Abuja, Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu.

The Media aide quoted the Governor as saying:

“Because of the escalation of the outbreak of Lassa fever in Bauchi State and the death of one of the district Heads due to the Lassa Fever and the infection with the diseases by some of the medical personnel, I decided to cut down my official visit to Germany by coming to solicit the support of the Federal Government through the DG National Center for Disease Control and ED National primary health Care development agency.”

He noted that the Governor’s visit to the Director-General was to appreciate him for his commitment towards reducing the infection of diseases in the country and to intimate him of the readiness of his administration to work with the Center for effective provision of healthcare services in the state.

Bauchi state governor, Bala Mohammed said the death of the District Head of Toro, Alh Garba Adamu Toro has created a vacuum not only to the state traditional institution but the entire State.

He said this when he paid a condolence visit to the family of the deceased in Tora local government area

He described the late district head as an exemplary and hardworking traditional leader who will be remembered by his contributions to the development of the state

During the visit, the governor Bala was received by the deputy caretaker committee chairman of the local government Alh Idris Musa Matawai, traditional and religious leaders from within and outside the local government area.

He accompanied by the state PDP chairman Hamza Koshe Akuyam, Chief of Staff, Government House, Dr Ladan Salihu Commissioners
and other top government officials.

The late District Head died barely three months after he turbaned as district head of Toro and has since been buried according to Islamic rites.
