A student at the Eldoret based Moi University, Kenya has confessed to stealing Sh70,000 from her mother’s two bank accounts, which she entirely spent on her boyfriend.

Cynthia Cherop pleaded guilty to stealing the money from Barclays and National banks and spending it with Josephat Ng’ang’a.

Barclay’s Bank’s CCTV had captured the lovebirds leaving the bank after withdrawing part of the money.

The boyfriend later threatened to thoroughly beat her mother, Milka Chebosisi Sitati, should she talk about it.

State prosecutor, Solomon Naulikha, asked the court to treat the accused as a first offender and give her probation.

Chief magistrate Francis Andayi said it was unfortunate that the accused stole the money to spend with her boyfriend whom her mother did not approve of.

Cherop, on Friday, July 27, asked Magistrate Andayi to help her seek her mother’s forgiveness.

Ms Sitati had appeared before Court and told the magistrate she wanted her daughter in prison, and not in her house.

However, two of Ms Sitati’s brothers pleaded with the court to release Cherop to them since her mother did not want to see her. They said they wanted her to continue attending college.
