LOVESTRUCK! Jigawa man sets self ablaze over wife’s failure to return home after a dispute
A lovestruck 40-year-old man reportedly attempted to commit suicide by setting himself on fire in Jigawa State.
WuzupNaija gathered that the man, identified as Abdullahi Jafaru, bathed himself with petrol and set himself ablaze because his wife refused to return home after a dispute.
Jigawa police spokesperson, Audu Jinjiri, who confirmed the incident, said that Halima had left home on 31 December 2018, following a misunderstanding with her husband.
Jafaru, a resident of Shunar village, Kafin Hausa LGA, who has two wives had tried unsuccessfully to convince his first wife, Halima, to return home.
Not able to convince his wife, a troubled Mr Abdullahi then poured petrol on himself and set himself ablaze.
“As soon as the police in the area got the hint, they swiftly moved to the scene and rescued the victim Mr Jafaru, then rushed him to hospital.
“Even while on sick bed receiving treatment, Mr Jafaru was still calling the name of Halima his wife even though his second wife remains with him at the hospital taking care of him,” the police spokesperson said.
The couple reportedly have six children together.
