A 29-year-old man, Garba Yakubu, has been arrested by the Niger State Police Command for allegedly attempting to rape a seven-year-old girl in a kitchen.

The incident was said to have occurred on March 16, 2019, opposite the Central Mosque, Kuta Road Minna.

The suspect was arrested by a team of policemen attached to the ‘A’ Division following a tip-off.

It was learnt that one Mairo Ma’agi of the same address had earlier reported the matter to the police before the suspect was picked up.

It was gathered on Sunday that the suspect lured the victim into the kitchen, tore her pants and pulled out his manhood in order to have sex with her but stopped when he heard the footsteps of the girl’s uncle, Abbas.

It was further gathered that when the suspect noticed that the uncle was coming to the kitchen, he quickly pulled up his trousers and pretended that he was looking for something.

Our correspondent gathered that victim’s uncle met her lying naked on the floor and she narrated how Yakubu allegedly wanted to have sex with her.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Muhammad Abubakar, said the suspect had confessed to the crime during interrogation, adding that he had been charged to court.
