Man, 30, jailed for allegedly receiving stolen 10,000 pounds

A 30-year-old man, Musa Usman, on Monday appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, charged with receiving 10,000 pounds (about N4.7 million) from two housekeepers.

Usman, whose address was not provided, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and receiving stolen money from two housekeepers.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Victor Eruada told the court that Usman committed the offences on July 24, 2018, at 38, Alhaji Jubril Laide St., in Magodo area of Lagos State.

According to Eruada, the defendant received the stolen money, knowing same to have been stolen.

Eruada said that Usman received the amount from the two housekeepers who allegedly stole it from their employer.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Magistrate, Mrs M.I. Dan-Oni admitted the defendant to bail of N1 million each with two sureties in like sum.

Dan-Oni said that the sureties, who must be relatives of the defendants, must be gainfully employed.

The magistrate said that the sureties must show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government and have their addresses verified

She adjourned the case until April 11 for mention.
