The Niger State Police Command has arrested a Nigerien, Sani Yusuf, 50, for causing serious bodily harm to a 60-year-old Nigerian grandmother, Asabe Zagi, by stabbing her several times with a knife.

Yusuf, who is employed as a private security guard, was apprehended by detectives attached to the Bosso Police Division in the Bosso Local Government Area of the state.

The suspect was said to have stabbed Zagi of Tudun Fulani, Bosso, following an argument that ensued over allegations that he was making sexual advances to the victim’s 14-year-old granddaughter.

It was learnt that the suspect used a sharp knife to stab his victim several times in a fit of rage after she accused him of buying a SIM card for her granddaughter as part of a scheme to lure the teenager into having sex with him.

The suspect, who is a father of seven, told Northern City News that he was provoked by the victim into taking the extreme measure following her baseless accusation.

He said,

“Zagi, an employee of Bosso the Bosso Local Government Area, invited me to her house and accused me of buying a SIM card for her granddaughter in order for her to allow me to have sex with her.

“I told her that I would be the last person to do such a thing and we started to argue and in the heat of the argument, I stabbed her.”

According to him, the victim had been accusing him of having illicit affairs with underage children; a charge he insisted lacked merit.

Yusuf explained that matters came to a head on the fateful day when she invited him to her house and accused him of making passes at her teenage granddaughter.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Muhammad Abubakar, confirmed the incident, saying the suspect had confessed to the crime and would have his day in court as soon as investigations were completed.
