Man, 70, sentenced to 30 years imprisonment for raping eight-year-old girl in Niger

Magistrate Court III sitting in Minna, Niger state has sentenced a 70-year-old man identified as Mohammed Sani Umar to 30 years jail-term for raping an eight-year-old girl in the Chanchaga area of Niger state.

Newsmen report that Police in Niger state have arrested a 70-year-old man for allegedly raping an eight-year-old girl in the Chanchaga area of Minna, Niger State.

The suspect identified as Mohammed Sani Umar (Tela) allegedly raped the girl twice before giving her N80 to stay quiet about the incident.

The suspect, Mohammed was arraigned before a Chief Magistrate Court on Thursday, July 23.

Before the Magistrate court, Mohammed admitted that he raped the little girl twice because he loved her.

Delivering judgment on the case, Senior Magistrate Safuratu Abdulkareem of Magistrate Court III, Minna, found Umar guilty of the offense and sentenced him to 30 years in prison.

She added that the jail term was in line with Section 18, Subsection 2 of the Child Right Act (2010) of Niger State.
