Man killed by airplane after going for walk on airport runway



A man was killed by a Boeing 737 after he walked along Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas on Thursday evening according to a Friday report by CBS News.

The man who is yet to be identified is said to be a trespasser and was going for a walk on the runway when he was hit and killed by the Southwest plane.

The pilot reportedly saw the man before hitting him and tried to manoeuvre the jet out of the way, but was unable to, CBS News reported.

After he was killed, an airport driver found the man’s remains on the runway, and an ambulance was called but it was too late as he was pronounced dead at the scene.

All passengers from the plane disembarked after the collision and no one on board was hurt according to the report. The runway where the man was struck has been closed for further investigation.

Police are continuing to investigate who he is, how he appeared on the runway, and what he was doing there as he had no identification on him and wasn’t an airport staff.

Speaking to Fox7, a Southwest spokesman said:

‘Southwest is fully cooperating with local law enforcement and FAA as those agencies investigate the event. We sincerely thank our Crew for their professionalism and swift response.’
