A 29-year-old man, Ayokunle Henry, has been remanded in prison by an Ado Ekiti Chief Magistrate’s Court for the alleged rape of a minor.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Caleb Leranmo, told the court that the accused committed the offence on 28th December 2019 in Ilawe-Ekiti in Ekiti Southwest Local Government Area.

Leranmo disclosed that the offence contravened section 2(2) of Ekiti State Gender-Based Violence (Prohibition) Amended Law, 2019.

He said:

“The accused hanged out with the victim, a 17-year-old girl while coming back, he took her to the bush and raped her.”

The prosecutor urged the court to remand the defendant in prison pending legal advice from the office of Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

The plea of the accused was not taken.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Abdulhamid Lawal, ordered the remand of the accused in prison, pending the issuance of legal advice.

He adjourned the case until February 3 for mention.
