Suspected cultists on Sunday killed one Senitonkumo Otu, popularly known as Murphy, during an invasion attack of Azikoro-Agbura, Yenagoa, Bayelsa.

It was gathered that the young man, who is an artisan, was shot dead by the hoodlums.

According to some of his neighbours, Otu might have been mistakenly killed for another target of the cultists.

One of the neighbours who pleaded anonymity said that the cultists were on a mission to search for their target known as ‘Peerooo’ before Otu accidentally met them and was shot in the process.

The source expressed shock over the incident and called on the State Government and security agencies to protect them against men of the underworld who were now frequently invading the area.

Mr Allen Ofoin, landlord of the deceased described Otu as a law-abiding and easy-going person.

Pere Tuboebi and Father Dokpere, who reside in the same building with Otu, said that power outage and poor policing could be responsible for the rising wave of criminal activities in the area.T

his paper learned that the policemen from Azikoro Police station and some family members took the corpse of the deceased to the mortuary.

Also, the Bayelsa Police Spokesperson, Asinim Butswat, confirmed the incident and said that the state command was still awaiting the detailed briefing from the Divisional Police Officer in Azikoro division.
